The Mud Sales have already begun in Lancaster County Pennsylvania.  There isn't a better way to experience the colorful Amish 'Folk' than to join in one of the annual Mud Sales in Lancaster PA.  Each Saturday starting in February and going into April, a different local volunteer fire department is host to the Mud Sale Auctions, where it has been heard you can buy anything from a "pig to a quilt".  Many of the auctions have quilts in abundance and at very reasonable prices as well.  Each of the Mud Sales has a variety of items, some concentrating on farm equipment and building supplies, others in antiques and collectibles, but at most every sale you will find quilts and plenty of Amish.  Vendors are also on hand for the traditional food that you would find at similar events. Lancaster Quilt, Lancaster Art, Lancaster PA Bed & Breakfast

Handmade quilts have been a tradition among the Old Order Amish and Mennonite Community for many generations in Lancaster Pennsylvania.  One of the best places to learn about Amish Quilts is the Lancaster Quilt and Textile Museum in downtown Lancaster PA.  On display are locally made Amish quilts dating between the 1870's and 1940's.    The creativity of the Quilts with endless color schemes, original and traditional designs, will bring amazement to nearly everyone.  You will want to visit many of the local Amish quilt stores around Lancaster PA, including Riehl's Quilts and Crafts, Silvia Petersham's Quilts & Fabrics, Smuckers Quilts, Country Lane Quilts and Witmer Quilt Shop.  Lancaster PA is a vibrant community of the arts, with added popularity of the First Friday Events each month, showcasing many of the local artists in the area.  Centrally located is the After Eight Bed & Breakfast, where your host Robert will be more than pleased to give you directions and also provide information on restaurants and many other activities in Lancaster PA.

Amish, Lancaster PA, Amish Lifestyle

Lancaster Pennsylvania has been know for years as a farming community and for the Amish culture.  In fact, Lancaster has some of the most productive non-irrigated farmland in the country.  This is probably one of the reasons that the Old Order Amish, Mennonites, Brethren and other "Plain People",  find the area so appealing.  Their priorities are first to God and second to their families and farms.  There are many different variations within the the "Plain People", but it is their faith and literal interpretation of the Bible scriptures that keep them to be separate from many of the modern ways of the "English".  The Old Order Amish will not have electricity or telephones in their homes.  They will not own a car or a tractor, which is why you will see them riding buggies and using draft animals to pull their farming equipment.  Lancaster is a great place to mingle with the Amish, learn about their culture, discover and become intrigued with people that can remain faithful to their beliefs, even with all the modern culture surrounding them.
